After the film adaptation for Halo lost its financing last year, you could almost hear the collective groan of fanboys everywhere (myself included) mourning the news. Lucky for us, Peter Jackson hasn’t lost hope. Jackson recently told Stuff.co.nz that he thinks the release and success of Halo 3 will once again spark interest with studio executives, and that if the film does get back on the production, Neill Blomkamp is still their man for the director’s seat - despite studio concerns about the director who previously has only directed commercials and short films.
One of Jackson’s other major projects as a producer was a big-budget adaptation of sci-fi video game Halo to be directed by South African Neill Blomkamp.
However, plans for the film to be shot in Wellington were shelved last year.
Jackson said he expected renewed interest from Hollywood studios 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures to have Halo made as the Halo 3 video game will be released later this year.
He and partner Fran Walsh would be involved again in Halo only if Blomkamp is the director. “We wouldn’t want to do it with anybody else. It’ll be Neill’s call.”
Here’s hoping that Halo 3 can raise this movie from the dead.
