Movie-Based Video Games Are Always A Good Idea

I can understand the appeal of making video games based on movies, and vice versa. But, that doesn’t mean that it is always a good idea — it rarely is. Even worse, consumers don’t seem to notice or care. I, for the life of me, can’t understand how crap like Pixar’s Cars ends up being in on the list of top 10 selling games for 2006.
With the recent announcement of a Dirty Dancing video game (that would have made a good joke a couple of weeks ago), I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to frown upon the practice, but embrace it. There is no end in sight, and no such thing as setting the bar too low.
If this is where the industry is really headed, and they’re going to turn movies like Dirty Dancing into games, I’ve got some ideas of my own.
Red Dawn — With the explosion of popularity of first person shooters, making a game version of Red Dawn is a no-brainer. Armed with guns and hunting bows, live off the land and blast the Commie invaders straight to hell in the mountains of Colorado. Naturally, scenes involving regaining health by drinking the blood of a deer, and fixing your vehicle by urinating in the radiator would be included. Wolveriiiines!!!1!!
Weekend at Bernie’s — Work your way through a series of minigames with Bernie’s corpse in tow as you try to avoid being blamed for his murder, and clear your name.
Breakin’ — A game much like DDR, but would also take advantage of the Wii’s motion detecting controller to let you pop and lock your way to being the best in the city.
Short Circuit — A platformer in which you are an intellegent robot wandering around town trying to evade the local homeless population that want to turn you in to the metal recyclers for crack money. Oh yeah, and you also don’t want to be recaptured by the corporate bastards that want you back for reprogramming. Johnny Five is alive!
Jackass — Wait, this one is already happening.
Any developers interested in my ideas? I’m available for consultation.

I would like to see a video game based on “The Wizard” starring Fred Savage.
Kevin Says:I’ve got another idea to throw in the mix:
Legally Blonde - You play the role of a spunky girl who has to solve a murder mystery by completing little minigames such as:
*Toe nail painting
*Runing through an obstacle course while avoiding your horny boss under a certain time limit
*visiting a jail and freeing the non-guilty female inmates by asking them questions to figure out which ones are innocent
The game would also feature a few “Phoenix Wright” type of courtroom scenarios. Not guilty!!!!!!!
