Harmonix, the creators of Guitar Hero, released some details regarding their new game, Rock Band, in an interview with IGN. For the unaware, Rock Band that allows you to sing, play guitar, bass, or drums separately, or with a group of friends.
Though the CEO is frighteningly vague about a lot of issues (using words like “ambitious plans” and “actively considering the possibility”), there were a few things to note.
- You can’t create your own songs.
- There will be an online mode, but all that’s revealed is that the modes will be “substantial.”
- The question of price is avoided, but I’m expecting it to cost around 3 million dollars for all the pieces to this video game puzzle. The silver lining? You can use your Guitar Hero guitar with the game.
- Since they’re owned by MTV, they have great access to various bands and songs, which will include pretty much every genre, including classic, modern, punk, metal, and alternative.
Guitar Hero is one of those great phenomenons in gaming that bridges gaps between hardcore gamers and their non-gaming girlfriends (Assuming hardcore gamers have girlfriends). And while Rock Band has great potential, it will be interesting to see how much it costs, and who is willing to shell out the money. The other thing I wonder is how anyone will be able to hear the music when you’ve got one friend singing poorly in your left ear, and another banging on a drum kit in your right. If only I conducted the interview…

Kevin Says:Drum controller FTW!
On a recent 1UP Yours podcast, Shane said that some of the stuff in the works for Rock Band will “blow your mind.” It’ll be nice to see what that stuff is. I can’t even imagine what it would be. Maybe I should go buy a new imagination.
