    Showdown LAN 2007

    Left 4 Dead

The head honcho at my favorite game company will be making a keynote address at this years Showdown LAN in San Jose, CA.Not only that but he’s bringing the first real public showing of the hotly anticipated title Left 4 Dead. Alot of folks having said that broadband proliferation and games like WoW have killed the notion of the classic LAN party. But, events like this give me hope for the continued success of LAN’s in general.

From Valve’s Blog: Tomorrow, Saturday June 16th, Valve’s Gabe Newell will be giving a presentation at the Showdown LAN 2007 event in San Jose. He’ll be discussing the Orange Box release and some new developments in Steam. But the part of the event we’re looking forward to most is Left 4 Dead being playable by real gamers for the first time. Judging by our own internal playtests, the co-op nature of the game will make for some intense (and hilarious) LAN play. Note to those attending the event: Gabe tends to accidentally shoot teammates, so stand behind him while fighting the zombie horde.

Left 4 Dead is being spear headed by Turtle Rock studios under Valve’s watchful eye. Turtle Rock is also the same developer that Valve has entrusted with the CounterStrike legacy. So if yer tired of trying to teach that pet headcrab a new trick while you wait for the next big release from Valve, then get to San Jose and LAN it up. If you do go ask Gabe if i can get Steam credit for the interest earned on my 10 year old Team Fortress 2 pre-order.
