Do The Mario!

With the release of Super Mario Galaxy this week, I thought I’d put up my favorite Mario video ever. These are the closing credits from the Super Mario Brothers Super Show back in ‘89, which featured live action segments with Capt. Lou Albano as Mario. The best part of this video is at the very end, right after Lou “sings” ‘Just like thaaaaaaaat!’
And then he trips.
Exhausted from the ridiculous dance he’s doing, Capt. Lou clearly loses his balance and awkwardly attempts to turn it into a splashy finale. Even as a kid, I remember watching this and wondering, ‘Why didn’t they reshoot that?’ Now I wonder, ‘Did Capt. Lou choreograph that dance himself?’ I can’t imagine someone teaching him how to “Do The Mario”, since it mostly involves swinging your arms, goading the audience, and tripping.
I love instructional songs that teach kids how to walk.
