Some “big” news in gaming was announced this Sunday, with Vivendi (You know, Blizzard Entertainment, World of Warcraft, etc.) acquiring Activision (You know, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Barnstorming on the Atari 2600) in a deal where billions of dollars changed hands. So what does this mean for gamers? Well, nothing actually.

    According to the AP article:

Vivendi’s planned acquisition of Activision would blend each company’s respective strength but won’t necessarily lead to cross-pollination among game developers.

So hold off on any wacky, dream mash-ups in the future. In fact, Blizzard President (er, Activision Blizzard) Mike Morhaime (or Morhaine if you’re 1up.com) was interviewed by everyone in the world, including IGN to basically say everything is status quo. So why the big news? Because now they’ll all be making even more money! And that is news we need to know about!
