Maybe Rock Band Really Can Make You A Drummer For Real?

People say that playing drums in Rock Band is pretty close to the real thing. But is it really? Kevin Pereira from G4 recently got to chill with Coheed and Cambria, who have one of their songs “Welcome Home” featured in Rock Band.

After talking some trash to the band’s drummer, they let Pereira take a stab at a real drum set and jam with the band. Before rocking out though, he took a few seconds to arrange some home-made colored circles on the drums to help him out. The surprising thing is … when they started rocking out, he didn’t totally suck. In fact, he actually sounded pretty good.

I’m not sure if Pereira plays drums in real life, and if he does you can just ignore the rest of this post. But if he was actually just jamming along to what he’d learned in Rock Band, I think you could make a fairly strong argument that playing drums in Rock Band really is like the real thing, and that it can help teach you the drums to some extent.

    [Update 3/25/08]
Since originally posting this, I have learned that Kevin Pereira does, or at least did, play drums beyond just Rock Band. He talks about it on his blog, where he posted an entry about playing drums with Coheed and Cambria. So much for my HIGHLY scientific, well researched theory … fimbel door estimates prices test
